After going through this post, you will have a clear idea about multisite, when and how to use it.\u00a0Before starting the article I wanna give you some overview about\u00a0WordPress Multisite so that it&#8217;s easy to understandable\u00a0to you that what is WordPress\u00a0Multisite? and how&#8217;s it&#8217;s useful to you?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Note: Before installing\u00a0WordPress Multisite deactivate your all running plugins.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mainheader\">WordPress Multisite overview &#8211;<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress Multisite is a very useful feature of\u00a0WordPress.\u00a0WordPress Multisite that allows you to create multiple virtual sites that share a single WordPress installation. Which means this very useful WordPress feature lets you create and manage more than one WordPress sites from a single dashboard.\u00a0This allows users to create their own sites as subdomains of your primary site.<\/p>\n<p>By using the multisite feature, you can easily and quickly create separate WordPress installations for each of them.\u00a0WordPress multisite is especially useful for business, news or magazine sites with various departments, sections, and categories.<\/p>\n<h2>Cautions Before Using WordPress\u00a0Multisite &#8211;<\/h2>\n<p>Some cautions which are\u00a0necessary before something\u00a0is going wrong after the installation WordPress multisite. You can install multisite in your existing WordPress installation. However, if you have never used multisite before, it would be wise to activate multisite in a test site or your localhost which is a WordPress installation on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>If you are planning to enable multisite in your live WordPress website, make sure that you have a full backup of your website files and database. This will allow you to invert to the last working state if anything goes wrong.<\/p>\n<h2>Activating Multisite Within FIve Easy Steps &#8211;<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Step1 &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Firstly for activating multisite is to add a new line to your wp-config.php file which is in your WordPress folder.<\/p>\n<p>Open the file and search for\u00a0the line that says:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000\">\/* That\u2019s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. *\/<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now add below lines just above\u00a0it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\/* Multisite *\/<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>define( \u2018WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE\u2019, true );<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3823 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/1.jpg\" alt=\"wp-config.php file\" width=\"946\" height=\"231\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And save the\u00a0wp-config.php file.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step2 &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After step1, get back to your website dashboard. Hover over the \u2018Tools\u2019 menu which is on left side, and you will notice a new sub-menu titled <strong>\u2018Network Setup\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3869 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/21.jpg\" alt=\"Network setup\" width=\"654\" height=\"877\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step3 &#8211; Configuring Your Multisite<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Go to Tools -&gt; Network Setup. You will be taken to a page similar to the following \u2013<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3827 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/3.jpg\" alt=\"Network Setup\" width=\"720\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On this page, you will have two options to customize \u2013<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Network Title<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Network Admin Email<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Provide the network title, network email and click \u2018Install\u2019. This will start the actual installation process. After a few seconds, you will be shown to a page like the below image \u2013<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3871 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/22.jpg\" alt=\"network\" width=\"1879\" height=\"867\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here you will show <strong>wp-config.php<\/strong> and <strong>.htaccess<\/strong>files code which you have to add in your\u00a0<strong>wp-config.php<\/strong> and <strong>.htaccess<\/strong>files.<\/p>\n<p>Get the files. For the wp-config.php file, make sure that you are adding the code before the <span style=\"color: #008000\">\u201c\/* That\u2019s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. *\/\u201d<\/span> line.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Make sure that you are adding the code correctly &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the .htaccess file, delete the lines between the<strong> \u201c# BEGIN WordPress\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>\u201c# END WordPress\u201d<\/strong> lines. And paste the lines you are provided with for the file.<\/p>\n<p>After updating the wp-config.php and .htaccess files, reload your website dashboard. You will be asked to log in again.<\/p>\n<p>Once you log in, you will be taken to your regular dashboard, which will have a new top menu titled \u2018<strong>My Sites<\/strong>\u2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3861 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/5-4.jpg\" alt=\"MySite\" width=\"739\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step4 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Multisite Settings &#8211;<\/h3>\n<p>If you hover over the \u2018Settings\u2019 menu of your network dashboard, you will find out two new sub-menus \u2013 <strong>Network Settings<\/strong> and <strong>Network Setup<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Network Setup sub-menu will display the codes you added to the wp-config.php and .htaccess files during activating multisite. This is just a reference page; you will not find any actual option on this page.<\/p>\n<p>All the settings options are located on the Network Settings page. If you go to Settings -&gt; Network Settings from your network dashboard, you will be taken to a page like the following \u2013<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3872 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/6-2.jpg\" alt=\"Network setting\" width=\"665\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can customize\u00a0Settings here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>title<\/strong> of your network.<\/li>\n<li>The network admin\u2019s <strong>email address.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Registration settings<\/strong>: whether users can register accounts and\/or sites, whether site admins can add new users, and email domains and site names which are banned.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New site settings<\/strong>: the content of the welcome email for site admins and users and the first page, post, and comment created on new sites.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Upload settings<\/strong>: file types permitted and maximum file size.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language settings<\/strong>: the default language.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Menu settings<\/strong>: enable or disable the plugins menu item for site admins. If you disable this they won\u2019t be able to activate or deactivate plugins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After you have made the necessary changes, click \u2018Save Changes\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The\u00a0Network<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Dashboard &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After Multisite Settings your network dashboard will be shown like below image &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3848 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/7-1.jpg\" alt=\"Network dashboard\" width=\"720\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here you will show two boxes one is search users and another is search sites. You can find the number of users and sites in your network.<\/p>\n<p>In the network setting, you can view a list of the sites, users, themes and plugins of your network by going to the Network Admin menu from the top navigation bar.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step5 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Adding a New Site<\/h3>\n<p>Go to My Sites -&gt; Network Admin -&gt; Sites from the top menu. This will take you to the \u2018Sites\u2019 page. From the page, click the \u2018Add New\u2019 button. This is the simple step to add a new site in your WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3853 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/weblizar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/10.jpg\" alt=\"Add New Site\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fill the site address, title and Admin email in their respective fields. Then, click \u2018Add Site\u2019. This will create the site for you.<\/p>\n<p>To view a list of all the sites, go to My Sites -&gt; Network Admin -&gt; Sites.<\/p>\n<p>Or, if you are already in the network dashboard, you can only go to Sites -&gt; All Sites.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>For Deactivate Theme &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To activate\/deactivate the theme for use on just one site, go to Network Admin &gt; Sites &gt; All Sites.<\/p>\n<p>Hover over the Theme name and Deactivate\/Activate.
